The JOULIA and METAWAVE projects are joining efforts to advance the electrification of high-temperature industrial processes, supporting Europe’s transition toward a cleaner, more efficient, and competitive industrial landscape.
Both initiatives are focused on replacing fossil-fuel-based heating with advanced electric technologies that can drastically reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions in energy-intensive industries.
JOULIA, coordinated by CIRCE – Centro Tecnológico, focuses on demonstrating induction and microwave-based heating systems in the rubber and plastics sectors. These innovative solutions aim to improve flexibility, efficiency, and integration with renewable energy sources, with a clear potential for replication in other industries such as ceramics and food processing.
METAWAVE, led by Instituto Tecnológico de Aragón (ITAINNOVA), is developing breakthrough microwave and digital technologies for sectors like ceramics, asphalt, and aluminium. By integrating smart control systems and digital twins, METAWAVE aims to achieve superior process efficiency, lower emissions, and increased productivity.
Together, JOULIA and METAWAVE share a strong technological and environmental vision: to accelerate industrial electrification through innovation, digitalisation, and cross-sector collaboration. This synergy will foster knowledge exchange and alignment across demonstration activities, safety frameworks, and policy recommendations, amplifying the collective impact of both projects.
By working together, these initiatives will help pave the way toward fully electrified, flexible, and decarbonised industrial heating systems, strengthening Europe’s clean energy transition and industrial competitiveness.
