DEM 1 - Italy
This demonstration integrates an induction heating system into a Rotocure machine, replacing the existing diathermic oil system for rubber vulcanisation up to 180°C.
The project aims to develop and optimise an electro-driven induction heating system for heating the machine, reaching TRL 7 by proving its reliability and efficiency up to 220°C.
It focuses on coupling photovoltaic and induction heating systems to maximise renewable energy use, minimise grid impact, and reduce energy consumption in the vulcanisation process by up to 25%
DEM 1 Impact
The concept behind this demonstration has wide applicability across various manufacturing sectors, including paper, plastics, and textiles. This broad potential for replication means that the approach could be extended to other industries. The project will also explore integrating thermal and electric storage, or alternative low-carbon heating technologies such as high-temperature heat pumps or hydrogen boilers, to support future scaling and replication across different manufacturing processes.
