DEM 2 - Poland

This demonstration focuses on an innovative microwave heating solution for the thermal activation of glue used in manufacturing multilayer pipes for insulation, operating at 100°C.

A microwave design will be developed specifically for conductive material wires, combining real-time tuning, monitoring, and control systems to ensure efficiency, quality and 40% energy savings.

The system will be flexible, adapting to production rates and idle time, optimising electricity use by avoiding consumption during idle periods.

DEM 2 Impact

Reduction of energy consumption

Up to 40%

GHG emissions reduction

Up to 40%

The microwave technology will enable a more efficient production process, with potential for replication within the same sector. The technology can be upscaled for different multilayer polymer applications, including pipes, sheets, and custom fittings. It could also be adapted for use with thermally and electrically conductive layers. Beyond the sector, this solution could be applied across various industries, as multilayered polymers are widely used in residential and industrial applications. Current processes typically rely on fossil fuel-based heating systems or direct electric heaters, making this scalable technology ideal for fast market adoption with minimal modifications.
